We have traveled by Amtrak and by air. Amtrak is far better way to travel. You can get up, walk around, eat in dining car, sit in observation car. On an airplane you are belted in the entire time. No getting up at all. Checking in at airport is a hassle with security with Amtrak you purchase tickets and check in at station, board the train and that's it.
